Legal Marijuana- A Weapon Against Poverty

Poverty is something that affects all nations however there are certain nations that suffer extreme poverty. Countries such as Swaziland and Haiti, to name a few, are limited with the natural resources at their disposal not to mention the lack of technological advances limiting their possibilities tremendously.

In many cases these types of countries turn to the illicit drug trade to generate their income yet in this illegal model the people in true need of the money never see a dime, or whatever the equivalent is of a dime in the specific currency.

There is a solution to this problem and it all comes down to policy surrounding drugs with a main focus on cannabis.

How Cannabis can save the poor

Cannabis has plenty of applications namely; Recreational, Medical and Industrial. In terms of medical benefits, a lot of new research indicates that not only can it be a cheap, safe medicine that can be grown locally; it can also provide essential nutritional value in terms of vitamins and protein to the same people.

But for these countries lacking access to natural resources the one application that would benefit them the most is hemp. Hemp has thousands of different uses and even being exported as a Raw crops would provide significant economic relief to these countries. Not only allowing them to grow their own building material that could construct stronger, weather resistant housing along with oils, plastics, papers, cloth and so forth.

In fact, a small country currently in ruins, such as Haiti, would be able to rebuild society if given access to cultivate hemp. They would be able to build cars, houses, bridges while at the same time growing their own food, animal feed and renewable energy sources.

It’s a crime to let them suffer

While the world bickers about drug use they continue the suffering of the poor. The rest of the money never reached its destination and quickly mainstream media forgot about their suffering and existence.

If the world community is unwilling to pledge their money to help these impoverished nations, then we should at the very minimal not hinder their ability to help themselves. Hemp is an essential need for some countries more than others, and it should be considered a crime to stand in the way of self-preservation regardless of international treaties and so forth.

This is just another reason to end prohibition and to start dealing with the problems of our world as a collective humanity. After all, we are all part of the human race and whether you live in the first world or suffer in the third world, we can all benefit from a bit of understanding and tolerance.
