It’s Time for Medical Cannabis Patients to Step Into the Spotlight!

5 things Everyone Should Know About Cannabis Rescheduling:

1. CANNABIS RESCHEDULING IS A VICTORY FOR PATIENTS BY PATIENTS

Cannabis is being rescheduled because of its “currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.”  After 50+ years of prohibition on access and research, it was the experience and research from state medical cannabis programs that made this qualification possible.

2. MEDICAL CANNABIS HAS BEEN VALIDATED

While Schedule III isn’t the classification we want, no matter what happens with the rest of this rescheduling process, medical cannabis patients and their medical professionals’ experiences with cannabis therapeutics have been validated by the FDA and Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

3. RESCHEDULING CLOSES A CHAPTER, NOT THE BOOK

Rescheduling is a game changer for patients & advocates working to close the gap between politics & medicine; this allows federal policy focus to  evolve from the decades long burden of proving“ if cannabis has medical value” to “how can patients safely access cannabis.”

A Schedule III classification does NOT legalize cannabis AND does NOTHING to improve the state medical cannabis programs or restore patients ‘ federal rights.

4. RESCHEDULING IS A CALL TO ACTION

This victory is not just a culmination of years of advocacy; it’s also a call to action. It’s a call to ensure that the promise of medical cannabis is realized for everyone who needs it…that means passing federal legislation. Congress has needed to act on medical cannabis policy for years, and now they can with full confidence that they are supporting patient health.

That is why ASA’s focus in on Congress! ASA’s legislative proposal creates for a national medical cannabis program that will create uniformity in regulations, restore the rights of medical cannabis patients, create nationwide access for therapeutic use and research, and forge a new, purpose-built pathway for cannabis therapeutics.

5. THE FUTURE OF MEDICAL CANNABIS IS UP TO US

Rescheduling is about patients, but unless we step into the spotlight, Schedule III could be the start of another 50-year holding pattern

Chances are your federal representatives aren’t sure what rescheduling means for patients unless YOU tell them. Act Now!
